Midfield Protein Solutions has exported its first product produced at the new protein plant – Premium Dried Ovine and Premium Dried Bovine meals to the US pet food market.
Midfield’s Mollie Smith said the export was a big achievement for all involved in the new plant.
“The premium meal is a high protein product with high digestibility that adds energy, minerals and vitamins to make pet food in the US / EU and the world,” Mollie said.
“We have an ongoing export relationships with many customers and took this into consideration when developing the plant, engineering the process line to meet their specifications.
It has three singular lines to suit different customers requirements. Offering both traditional rendering methods and new twists on extracting proteins for modern day markets.
“Our third processing line is a customised design more refined for modern-day petfood markets, offering a unique rendering method operating under precise pressure and temperature controls. It’s a really a big slow
cooker (Low and slow is the go!)”
The new Protein Recovery Plant has been producing product since August, taking animal byproducts that would otherwise be wasted, transforming them into high quality fats and oils as well as protein meals for new
industries.
“There is a global shortage of premium proteins and fats in the US and Europe due to livestock availability and the huge growth of home pet ownership caused largely by Covid lockdowns. So they are international markets we are targeting through the new plant.
Customers are also showing interest in our pure bovine Tallows and Meals. The plant is one of its kind in Australia so being able to segregate species throughout the entire process right through to the final products is unique.
“We are also continuing to serve our existing markets whilst expanding our product range.”
The plant utilises the company’s waste heat to create a significant amount of the hot water required for Midfield’s main plant operating needs.
