Encouraging young people to choose a career in agriculture

Home > Encouraging young people to choose a career in agriculture

April 15, 2020

Midfield is thrilled to partner with Westvic Staffing Solutions to deliver an annual traineeship to young people interested in pursuing a career in agriculture. The Midfield Group Agricultural Academy is an exciting new initiative designed to provide young people with a paddock to plate experience of the local agriculture sector. Midfield’s Barry Crimmin said the academy was an exciting new commitment from Midfield. “As a true paddock to plate company our involvement in this academy allows us to deliver young people a comprehensive experience of agriculture from the farm to the finished product,” Barry said. “From dairy farming and calf rearing to droving cattle, livestock processing and receival, international documentation, retail and now – with the
addition of The Union Dairy Company – a dairy processing experience, we can offer participants a full paddock to plate experience.” The academy is aimed at year 11 and 12 students and would involve one day per week in the workplace. This onsite experience would incorporate work across most elements of the organisation. “Participants who complete the course will receive an Agricultural Trainee Certificate II & III and achieve paid employment for a day a week with us at Midfield. Academy graduates may also have the opportunity to access our Deakin University scholarship.” If you are interested please visit midfield.com.au, westvic.org.au or call Westvic’s Jacob Rhodes on 0417 125 627.
